Four students from three AIKCU member campuses arrived in Frankfort this month ready to take on new jobs in state government agencies during the spring semester. They will participate in the AIKCU Frankfort Semester Internship Program, which since 2000 has helped private college students gain valuable work experience while exposing participants to a variety of public policy issues and career paths.
This year’s interns are, as pictured above (left to right):
- Zachary Myers, a Campbellsville University political science senior. The Campbellsville native and former CU Student Government president is interning in the Cabinet for Education and Workforce Development.
- Allisandra (Allie) Ward, a junior at the University of Pikeville majoring in communications. She is working in the Cabinet for Tourism, Art and Heritage’s travel division.
- Katheryn Young, a Lindsey Wilson College senior from Benton, Kentucky. She is interning with the Kentucky Historical Society.
- Andrew Harper, of Albany, Kentucky is another senior political science major at Campbellsville University. He is interning in the Office of the Inspector General of the Cabinet for Health and Family Service.
This is the 14th year for the AIKCU Frankfort Semester Internship Program, which is open to upper-class students in all majors at AIKCU member institutions. Students work approximately 30 hours per week in their assigned state agencies from January to mid-April and complete two upper division seminar classes in the evenings. Interns receive a living stipend to help cover their living expenses in the capital city. 110 students have completed the AIKCU internship since its inception in 2000.
