The results are in, and Transylvania University has once again won the AIKCU “Battle of the Bumpers,” the competition between Kentucky’s private nonprofit colleges to see whose supporters purchase the most private college-branded Kentucky license plates in a calendar year. 2014 marked the seventh straight year that Transylvania plates have outsold the competition.
In addition to showcasing the driver’s school pride, every Kentucky Independent Higher Education license plate on Kentucky roadways provides $10 directly back to the school’s general scholarship fund. The 960 Transylvania plates sold last year resulted in $9,600 in scholarships for Transy students. Centre College (812) finished second in plate sales again last year, with Bellarmine University (578) and Georgetown College (561) rounding out the top four.
Overall Kentucky Independent Higher Education license plate sales totaled 4,994 in 2014 resulting in $49,940 in student scholarships. The plates have generated more than $459,000 in scholarships since they were introduced in 2002.
Kentucky Independent Higher Education license plates can be purchased at any Kentucky County Clerk’s office when licensing or renewing a vehicle registration. For more information, visit the Kentucky Department of Transportation’s Division of Motor Vehicle Licensing.
